Spiritual Life

Basis for DBCR Faith Formation and Youth Ministry

Sl 3 Altar ServersThe “soul” of Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School is the Salesian Charism or Salesian Spirituality. This religious charism is the gift of the Spirit given to and the legacy passed on by St. John Bosco (Don Bosco), founder of the Salesians of Don Bosco (formally titled the Society of St. Francis de Sales). This spirituality, lived out in his pedagogical method, commonly referred to as the Preventive System, is the basis for all educational and evangelizing activity at Don Bosco Cristo Rey.

The Holistic Aim of Don Bosco’s Mission

Veronica In Theology ClassDon Bosco wanted to do more than catechize young people and bring them to Church. He wanted a full life for them, and understood that God can only be found by embracing the whole of life. Thus, he sought to give them all they needed for a full and happy life on earth (“to make upright citizens”) and all they needed to encounter God and develop meaningful relationships with Him, suited to their age and experience (“to make good Christians”). There is no end to the growth that can occur. Don Bosco envisioned even sanctity as being within the reach of his youngsters.
