Our Successes

BiancaThrough the Corporate Work Study Program, students are contributing to the success and productivity of 24 companies throughout DC, Bethesda, Rockville, and suburban Maryland. We celebrate some of the recent successes of our students in the workplace:

  • Jefri Sanchez researched a patient’s medical history at the St. Thomas More Nursing and Rehabilitation Center which resulted in $40,000 worth of Medicaid benefits awarded to the patient.
  • Lourdes Rodriguez has already found her dream job at the age of 14 years - an architect. Lourdes works for Opus East, a design-build firm, where she has the opportunity to learn about architecture, design and construction. Lourdes has demonstrated such great interest and talent that she has won the confidence of the company’s managers. They gave her a job that they only entrust to one or two of their permanent employees. She files correspondence in their intricate filing system which requires knowledge of the business, an understanding of cost codes, and problem-solving skills.
  • At Chevy Chase Bank, Lovie Banks Rose entered 56 loans into the computer in one day, more than any adult employee has ever accomplished!
  • Diana Montiel not only works her expected five days per month at the Hispanic Catholic Center (health clinic), she also volunteers there on non-school days
  • Boland purchased and implemented task management software that Nathaniel Thorne recommended.
  • Priscilla Perez was named the Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School Student of the Month (December) by the Pathways to Success program of the Commonweal Foundation for her work at Boland, the leading supplier of integrated comfort solutions and services in the Washington/Baltimore Metropolitan area. On the job, Priscilla enters contracts into an Excel spreadsheet, faxes, scans, and successfully completes any tasks given to her. Priscilla takes the job so seriously that several employees requested that she work with them. “She gets it,” said Kim Winokur, her supervisor, about Priscilla’s immersion into the Boland office and culture. She has become so adept at using the scanner that she helped two adult employees learn how to use it!
